BIB's and BOB's - a Soundweb Application Note
02 September 2010
BSS recently announced the release of the BLU BIB (Break-In Box), a simple input expander device which provides eight analogue mic or line inputs to a Soundweb London processing device via the BLU Link bus, a 256 channel digital audio network. The BLU BIB supplements the popular BLU BOB (Break-Out Box) which provides eight analogue outputs via BLU Link.
What may not be immediately apparent is that it is possible to directly link BIB’s and BOB’s without the need for a Soundweb DSP unit. The feature facilitates the creation of a scalable cost effective digital multicore using nothing more than BIB’s, BOB’s and off the shelf CAT6E cable.

Figure 1 shows a simple "16 x 8” digital multicore using 2 x BLU BIB (total 16 x mic channels) and 1 x BLU BOB (8 x returns) on stage, and 2 x BLU BOB’s (16 x Line level feed of mics to mixer) and 1 x BLU BIB (8 x returns) at the FOH position.
All configurations are done directly via the front panel of the devices. No need for a computer.
